A very good, well used, personalised NFS (National Fire Service) service helmet, serving ‘Fire Force’ district 38 London (Wimbledon).
Period khaki/dark green finish, has now worn, giving a blackened appearance due to field use. To helmet front is a very good condition NFS transfer, and FF number.
Interior in its original drab olive green.
Adjacent marking to the right chin strap bracket point ‘?K’ (obscured under the chin strap bracket) ‘J.S.S.’ and date 1939.
The under brim is paint and scratch marked with the wearers name and service number details (see images).
Liner is with the early oval upper cushion pad with the chin strap in very good matching, grubby condition.
The liner is the earliest dated example I have ever encountered being 1937, with maker mark ‘Helmets Ltd I’ size 6 3/4.
Helmet is dent and damage free, showing ‘honest field use’!
Superb character to the helmet !
