A very rare example of a New Zealand, Machine Gun Corps collar badge converted to a cap badge.
British made brass collar badge with separately affixed ‘NZ’ initials between the lower arms of the gun.
Reverse with ‘J R Gaunt London’ maker plate. Originally had three loop reverse fitting but has been workshop converted to two loop reverse fitting (see reverse images).
The Machine Gun Corps more than most other Corps / Regiments ‘thought it’ ‘fashionable’ / prudent to use converted collar badges as cap badges. The smaller badge made it harder to identify at distance !
The New Zealand Machine Gun Corps was formed in 1916 and disbanded at the wars end in 1918.…Hence a rare, hard to find badge !
