Something of a pre, WW1 and post WW1 time capsule.
A wooden (owner made) trinket box, decorated with Royal Marine ‘symbols’ and owner memorabilia, to include a brass name plate (see images).
The lid is engraved with the RM cap badge and Union flags (now faded).
The lid interior is superbly decorated with with owner photo postcards, and RM ‘symbolism’ (see images).
The box contains 21 photo post cards of military, mainly Royal Marine interest both WW1 and post WW1 related. 5 family related photographs, probably inter war. A WW1 Christmas card from the box owner. (Good uniform detail showing both khaki and navy blue period uniform to include the wear of the ‘Broderick’ cap.
A composite card wallet, with a posed group (3) studio photo postcard in WW1 uniform, and a superb 3/4 photo post card of the box and content owner in khaki Royal Marine uniform.
A small quantity of pre and post WW1 Ephemera to include a 1912 Royal Marine swimming certificate.
The owners complete set of uniform buttons, collar badges, shoulder titles and cap badge are also present, with a quantity of small keys, sealing wax and pencils. (None of the keys sadly work the box lock).
A lovely ink well is incorporated into the box interior (see images).
Also within the box is the Marines kit role with stamped owner name and service number. All the utensils are marked with the owner service number, making for a very nice untouched ‘wash role’.
This item has sat for many years in the base of a wardrobe, untouched !
A loverly untouched item !
(A heavy item, with the postal charge may needing adjustment!).
