A super ‘time capsule’ of WW1 home front fund raising related items for various causes, contained in a period chocolate box; ‘starting’ from the early stage of the war
A pin cushion in the form of a ‘book’ with a silk embroidered cover being the cap badge of the Army Veterinary Corps. To the interior are a number of paper day flag lapel pins for varying war causes (see images).
Also a silk, what may be a cap band for ‘Alexandra Day’, and a book mark for Belgium war aid. The book mark is with an early war date pencilled to it 28th Nov. 1914.
A collection for ‘Hospital Sunday’ form, this being with some fragility.
The box containing all the items is a vintage Cadbury chocolate box, the remains of the label is to the underside of the box.
The pin cushion may well have been a gift from a serving soldier brought back from France. The silk work on it is very akin to the workmanship found on silk postcards.
Sadly no owner details.
