A very fine example of a WW1 female VAD service hat in felt wool.
The hat is in exceptional condition being completely moth and damage free. The exterior hat band is with fragility due to wear and age and has had a couple of period stitched repairs.
The inner head band is present and in excellent condition in keeping with the hat body.
Gilt and enamel cap badge has been fitted to the cap above the cap band, via a single fitting split pin through two loop badge fittings.
The badge represents a VAD unit within Kent.
No maker or wearer details in evidence.
The hat is of a ‘very’ large wearer size, this being common for this vintage of head-wear, to facilitate the hair fashions of the day.
A very nice cap, rare to find in this condition.
