A very good condition first issue in brass and two colour white and blue enamel 1915 ‘On War Service’ lapel badge.
Slight enamel surface chip (only) at 7 o-clock.
Reverse with maker mark ‘J.R. Gaunt London’ with the issue number stamped to the button hole fitting.
This badge when first issued was as described in gilt and enamel, following suit with the 1914 issue. The expediencies of war dictated that it be simplified to brass only, to reduce production costs and reduce material input, saving the gilding and enamel processes.
