The German description being the Gasschutzmaske M.15
A superb example of a German M.15 gas mask often called the Gummimaske; as used for training purposes, identified as such by the red paint banding to the face mask eye pieces, the filter canister and the canister lid banding. Further training identification is by the stencilling of the wording ‘Ubungsmaske ‘ to the filter holder.
The face mask is in stunning condition (the best I have encountered in many years), being supple and damage free. All tapes and head straps are present, the mask having numerous manufacturer marks.
The 1917 dated filter canister has fared less well with one section rusted through (see images). The carrying tin has much of it’s original painted finish with ersatz cloth straps present and in good order. There is a stencilled paint name to the lid (un-readable) along with the numeral ‘3’. Manufacturer’s mark to the interior.
A mask in superb, overall condition, given its now 105 ‘years old’ !
Not an easy item to photograph at its best.
