The German description being the Gasschutzmaske M.15
A superb example of a German M.15 gas mask often called the Gummimaske.
As said this mask is in superb/stunning condition given its age and compared to many that are encountered today. Face mask, canvas is supple/pliable and damage free, with good clear maker issue markings (see images). All head straps are present and in their original place of fitting; complete also with and in its original position the neck wear strap. Lenses are clear and damage free. Filter canister attachment with good original paint finish and being rust free. Mask size ‘3’ to the front centre. Filter canister is rust free but with some finish loss, and may well be a later war replacement.
Carry tin is with a goodly amount of original finish and is with light surface rusting in places. Tin is dent and a damage free, and is with a good easy moving lid. To the tin base is scratched an owner name which is a little hard to decipher along with a Kompanie number (see images). Tin is with a fitting strap but no shoulder carry strap.
The mask has for a number of years been displayed outside the tin and has more recently been displayed, worn at the ready position around the neck of a mannequin form. As such it is ‘open’ and will only fit into the tin if pressed firmly into place. This I WILL NOT DO and it is sold as such so that no damage is incurred to the face mask in closing it down to fit the tin !
A mask of outstanding superior condition, now well over 100 years old.
Not an easy item to photograph at its best. Would be difficult to better!
