A superb British – India Steam Navigation Company ships officer service cap.
Cap is without any stiffener material and is very ‘crusher’ like in its demeanour.
Overall condition is excellent with the peek showing age crazing to the black patent finish.
Interior showing early ‘Gieves’ only maker details.
Bullion cap badge is in stunning damage free condition with age tarnishing only.
Merchant shipping style cap centre band is with wear and fraying.
A name appears to be erased from the tan brown leather head band.
Vintage is early, very possibly WW1.
The British – India Steam Navigation Company having been raised in the 1850’s was amalgamated in 1914 with ‘P & O’ Shipping.
Although a company serving the Indian Ocean and eastern waters primarily, the company worked closely with the Admiralty & Government during WW1 sailing trooping and supply services to all theatres of war.
