A rare 1st pattern Brodie helmet with original paint finish, liner and chin strap. Excellent overall condition with approx 70-75% original subdued ‘apple’ green paint finish remaining. No damage, and only minor denting to the crown. Liner complete, this being the very early ‘pickelhaube’ style liner. Two piece chin strap and buckle, Leather chin strap has age hardening but is complete and damage free. This type of helmet was issued for the first time in numbers for the Somme campaign in 1916, and was subsequently replaced by the Brodie raw edge helmet with ’up-graded’ head lining and then the Brodie ‘B’ pattern helmet.
