WW1 UNION CASTLE WOUNDED SOLDIER GIFT
An extremely rare ‘gift set’ as issued by the Union Castle shipping line to wounded troops being brought home to hospital via their ‘Hospital Ship’ transports. Card gift box with dedication to lid with the content being a small (crude) pipe and a tin of Players pipe tobacco. Pipe has been used and tobacco tin has been opened, but still contains some un- used tobacco. (The only gift ’set’ of this type I have ever been in a position to offer for sale). Not sure if this was the complete content as I have found no reference works on this type of item.
The 'Guildford Castle' was launched in 1911. It was requisitioned by the Admiralty for war service, and served throughout most of WW1 as a Hospital ship. It was withdrawn from civilian passenger services in 1933.

This is a SOLD Item.
It is currently on view in Mons Military Antiques ‘Archive Pages’ of previously stocked and sold items....For items currently on sale from Mons’ go to the ‘On-Line Shop’ pages !
