WW1 BRITISH FEMALE RED CROSS S.D. 'STRAW BOATER'
A stunning example of a straw service boater, as used by a female officer serving with the Red Cross.
Blue straw body in excellent damage free condition, with high quality silk full head liner.
Red Cross ‘colours’ head band with affixed gilt brass and enamel cap badge.
Silk head liner with full maker details ’Scott & Co.’ and showing light use.
Overall condition is outstanding with only evidence of light wear….No damage in any manner.
The crown of the cap is extremely large….This is in keeping with ladies hair fashions of the period, and allows the cap to be worn without impinging upon the wears hair style.
I do not believe this item could be bettered !
The British Red Cross during WW1 supplied medical staff in most capacities to the war effort. By far the greater contribution was that of nursing staff.
