An extremely rare pair of French WW1 1893 modified M1867 field trousers. Trousers are in very good overall condition with in the main surface moth to the knap of the heavy red material only, and a period repair to the left front knee area. Trousers complete with correct tin buttons and with securing hook and eye in place. White lining is with many issue and maker marks, indelible inked owner name and a very clear date stamp 1909.
This style of field trouser was worn in its various patterns by the French army through the mid / late 19th century and up to the start of WW1.
The French army took to the field in this style of trouser and their dark blue long coats in 1914.
