A very rare WW1 vintage other ranks service dress cap.
Excellent condition cap in moth and damage free condition, showing very light wear / use.
Correct narrow brown leather chin band, held in place with matching virtually black GS buttons.
Stiff peak with green composite under peak in clean bright condition.
Fabric interior with very light weight dark brown head band.
Faint serial number behind interior head band, but no WD markings (indicating possible private purchase, but un-likely).
Khaki wool cover of a much coarser material than the previous three listings, as is common with this vintage of cap.
Evidence of one / possibly two cap badges having been fitted, but now with no badge.

WW1 ‘stiff’ service dress caps were worn by regular army units at the outbreak of the war and by the territorial units that followed the regular army to France in 1915.
This style of cap was slowly replaced during 1915 by the soft style trench caps and in due course the steel helmet.
As an early war item of headress, such vintage caps are now extremely hard to find.

This listing, was only one of four period caps that I have been in a position to offer for sale in 35 years.....This is a measure of the scarcity of such items.

This is a SOLD Item.
It is currently on view in Mons Military Antiques ‘Archive Pages’ of previously stocked and sold items....For items currently on sale from Mons’ go to the ‘On-Line Shop’ pages !
