BOER WAR VINTAGE ROYAL ARTILLERY FIELD SERVICE CAP
A good untouched field service Royal Artillery other ranks side cap. Navy blue and red ‘doe skin’ wool material cap with gold wire bullion braid and brass grenade cap badge. Interior buff coloured wool head band. Interior with paper maker and size label ’Herbert & Co. London 22 ˝’. Printed WD and broad arrow marking with the date of issue 1901 below (see images). Head band with heavy moth. Exterior with much lighter in the main surface moth tracking.
Stored within the cap, and offered with it, are, three military certificates attributing the cap to Sergeant A.W. G. Collins 4th Field Battery RA. They are:-

1, Gunnery certificate indicating a pass and graded ’Very Good’ dated 12 March 1902
2, Certificate Showing Qualification in Military Subjects for the rank of Sergeant. Dated 2nd October 1898.
3, Riding Establishment RA (Woolwich) qualification certificate dated 31st May 1895
All certificates are on velum and indicate that Sgt Collins was very probably a regular career soldier being a veteran of the Boer War. Nice untouched item.
